My Husband just had surgery on his left eye for a detached Retina. Is is normalNormal saline flush for him to be having doubleDouble-tussin dm vision after the surgery? It is the weekend and we are not sure if we should call the doctor to let him know.
I'm not sure if anyone responds to this forum over the weekend.
Never worry about "bothering" the doctor. If it is normalNormal saline flush, no doctor would mind taking 2 seconds to reassure you. If it is not normalNormal saline flush, they will be glad you are calling so that they can tell you what to do immediately.
Think about it--is it worth the chance of permanent vision damage, just not wanting to "bother" the doctor?? Call and find out. If it's normalNormal saline flush, then you don't have to worry.
Be sure to read any printed follow up instructions they gave your husband after surgery. Sometimes it tells you what is and isn't normal.
I am 34 and underwent surgery for a detached retina back in 2002. I didn't have double vision, but it was a bit blurry and still is. I was told it would never fully return to normal or clear, though.
P.S. I agree with the above reply... In detached retina cases, something small could turn out to be something big, definitely call your dr. :) Good luck!
I had the Buckle done in my left eye on 12/14/05. Everything was going fine until 1/10/06. I noticed some distortion in the left eye - everything was sqhished narrow, and stretched long from top to bottom. Doctors said to come RIGHT in. Apparently fluid was getting under the retina again and he needed to do the bubble the next day. Once that was done, I could not see ANYTHING in the left eye due to the bubble. Also had headaches from the pressue of the bubble. Five days later Doc checked the eye and did NOT like what he saw - still saw some fluid under the retina. He had me HANG MY HEAD UPSIDE DOWN OVER THE EDGED OF THE BED for 2 hours (or more) each day for two days. When I came back to the Doc two days later thing were getting more where he wanted, but he was not sure - so he did laser stitched to hold the retina down - 190 zaps. The bubble is pretty small now - I can see around it, but NOTHING is clear at all. I can see images, but no details and can not read anything with that eye. The real problem is the constant tearing and stinging. Doc said I also had a small scrathc on the cornea, and that was causing the stinging and tearing. The stinging is mostly gone now, but the tearing is still pretty annoying. Does anybody have problem with tearing, and how long does this last? I have no comfort level in even trying to drive, and I'd like to get back to work soon before my business goes bust. By the way, I think its pretty funny to watch the bubble break into little ones and see them disappear. At least it gives me something to do as I count the little ones to see how many I can collect at one time :)

I did have some mild double vision for a couple of days after my surgery - it was quite a relief when it cleared up!
best wishes for a good recovery.
