Dilated Pupil after Retinal Detachment Surgery

by jjpointer, Sep 16, 2005 12:00AM
I had surgery to correct a retinal detachment six weeks ago.  The gas bubble has decreased in size to about the size of a marble.  I am concerned because my pupil is still dilated more than the other eye and has not decreased significantly in the last couple of weeks as the gas bubble has shrunk.  Is this normal and when can I expect the dilation to be normal again?

Thanks for your help.

One or more of the post-op drops that you are administering will be causing the dilation. Your pupil size should return to normal when you cease the medication. --- Mine did.

Well, it's been almost three months since my surgery and my right eye is still dilated.  I have to wear prescriptive lenses to see clearly now, which was not necessary before.  The surgeon says my dilation is not going to clear up because there was some damage to the optic nerve during the surgery.  Has anyone else had this experience?
