ERM Avastin Cataract vision loss

by nmlori, Sep 30, 2006 12:00AM
53yo male, Myopic (-12), Retinal tear 2003, laser tacking, ERM in May 2006, retinal swelling after four months, Avastin given to reduce swelling, but approximate further loss of vision by about 25% after Avastin shot, vision down to finger count recognition.  Florescein Angiography okay. Retinal swelling not going down per OCT.  Pain in eye is like someone squeezing eyeball adjacent pain is throbbing in optic cavity.  Transient vision loss after hot tub and exercise (~50%) returning to -10% in about 18hr.  Regional pain increased during exercise.  Severe sleep apnea, low blood pressure.  Not Diabetic.  Three retinal specialists seem to just want to wait, while vision is decreasing.  Trying to get in with Neuro-ophthalmologist.  Ideas?  Other conditions that may be present? Ischemia?  How to test?  Who should be testing other testing ideas?  Cataract consultation and surgery within the month. Is Avastin known to exacerbate cataract formation?

too many complicated & rare problems for this forum.  yes, go to a neuro-ophth.  retinal ischemia is untestable AFAIK (except by FA, which you've already had)  sorry.  wish i had better answers for you, but you're already seeing docs who have way more experience with these sort of conditions than i do.
