Eye Redness (Possible Subconjunctival Hemorrhage)

by dmjohnson, Apr 01, 2007 12:00AM
Background: Male, 23, good health, low blood pressure.

For the past 12 days my left eye, in a particular area, has been bright red (several thick red veins; picture: http://img49.imageshack.us/img49/7035/eyery2.jpg). What's more, it tends to occur in the exact same area 2 or 3 times a month, and for no apparent reason. However, usually it goes away after 1 or 2 days; this time it doesn't seem to be getting any better (worse during the first hour upon waking.) Also, for the last few days I've been feeling pressure in my head behind the problematic eye (I never get headaches, but I suppose this could be called a headache.)

I haven't endured any trauma, and don't have any allergies, so what could I possibly attribute this to?

Thanks so much!

good pic.

well based on that description and that pic, this screams 'episcleritis'.  would need an eye exam to officially diagnose it, and your optometrist/ophthalmologist would likely Rx you some topical steroids to help you get over it.

I don't know how I overlooked Episcleritis while attempting to self-diagnose. In retrospect, the symptoms are nearly identical to what I've been experiencing, especially "light sensitivity." I've actually noticed that exposure to a substantial amount of light has caused the redness to increase.

Thanks, again. I'll be sure to see an ophthalmologist this week.
