Eye pain, scotomas

by TechGuy02, Mar 26, 2007 12:00AM
Hi, for the past few weeks I have been experiencing pain behind my eye that seems to get better at night but starts up again soon after waking. This primarily affects my right eye. I went to the doctor thinking it was a sinus infection or something, and he didn't see anything but gave me antibiotics which didn't seem to help. Soon after that I noted several very small blank spots in my vision which sent me straight to my ophthalmologist who sent me to a retinal specialist. There I had a visual field test which found a few of the spots. The doctor said I had negative scotomas but nothing was visibly wrong with the retina. I'm being sent to a neurologist now to check the optic nerve. Reading up on my symptoms seems to point to optic neuritis. My question is, would these symptoms last this long (four weeks now) if it's ON, and will the scotomas go away? Also, I am only 27 and have severe eye floaters that developed almost a year ago, and also in recent years had muscle pain and swollen lymph nodes that were never explained. Could any of this be connected? Thanks.

'My question is, would these symptoms last this long (four weeks now) if it's ON'

YES

'and will the scotomas go away?'

unable to predict, but usually no.

'have severe eye floaters that developed almost a year ago, and also in recent years had muscle pain and swollen lymph nodes that were never explained. Could any of this be connected?'

the floaters are not connected to any of the other symptoms.  but they muscle pain and swollen lymph nodes and 'scotomas' could possibly be related to each other, yes.
