Eyesight deteriorating

by Babycakes1, May 16, 2006 12:00AM
I am a 53 year old male, have been wearing glasses for nearsightedness since I was 9 years old. For the past year or so I have been having problems reading and my ability to read has been deteriorating.

The eye doctor prescribed bifocals, however, I couldn't tolerate them especially when driving (when shifting focus from near to far constantly, it drove me nuts.) I went back to my original perscription.

Any suggestions as to compensate for nearsightedness and inability to focus for reading? Contacts and reading glasses? LASIK?  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks!

contacts and reading glasses is a great idea.  LASIK would be just like contacts and reading glasses.  you could likely have LASIK, but at age 53 you would still need reading correction of some kind (reading glasses, monovision, etc)

you could also do:

1) multifocal contacts (totally unlike bifocals)
2) multifocal IOL (*many* threads on this here)

have you talked to your doctor about this?
