Flashing specs in sunlight and white background

Hi there,
I have developed in the past year flashes whenever I look into the sky, or against white/light backgrounds.  I never see them at night.  I know flashes are normal, but if I look into the sky and just stare for 15 seconds, I notice hundreds of movements all around my eyes - little lightning bolts almost - everywhere.  I saw an Opthamologist and Optometrist and neither saw anything of concern - the former said it is common with near-sighted patients.  My eyes don't hurt - the amount of flashes that I see just scares me.  Should I be worried?

wow.  did you mention this to your eye doctors and they didnt tell you anything at all about it?

this is a VERY COMMON and totally benign entopic phenomenon.

the odd/interesting thing about your post is that the other eye docs heard this complaint and either didnt think of this answer, or dont know about it.  either that or you didnt word it the same way.

those are not "flashes"  what you are describing is a totally normal entopic phenomenon known as "Scheerer's phenomenon".

BTW i would not usually consider "flashes" as being "normal"...but what you are seeing *is* totally normal.

also, this has absolutely nothing to do with being "nearsighted".
