Floaters

I have noticed floaters since i was about 15 and i am now 24. Id say i have about 5 medium size floaters in each eye and then several small ones. And sine then when im outside and its sunny and i dont wear sunglasses then i can see in my central vision that theres somekind of flashing. its a lot like what you on a blacktop road when its extremely hot out. its somewhat like 2 circular somewhat black and its like their pulsating. its less noticeable when i wear shades and when i go inside from the sun it goes away. its never visible unless ive been in the sunlight for awhile. I have had about 3 or 4 opthamology check ups in the past 4 years and had my retinas looked at and everything comes up find. My last check up was at the optomotrist when i was getting new contacts. glaucoma test was fine and he shined the light across my eye so i assume that was another look at my retina and i guess everything came out fine again. So even after seeing like 3 different drs. and w/ my symptoms, do you suspect anything wrong or what should i do if anything?

I think i know EXACTLY what you mean about the pulsing, because i have the same thing. Im 23-24 now, i have floaters/black spots and other staff-minor i think- since 4 years ago. I have noticed something those last years and i thought it was something very weird that it's only me that i have: when i look up in the bright sky, some kind of pulsing starts. Only if i keep staring i will notice a great pulse: at the begining it reminds me the light that we see around a lit candle or the light effects on the top of the see. Usually i turn my eyes away but if i keep gazing, some pulsing shadows that have the shape of a boomerang start and they all direct in the middle. It's difficult to discribe. Yesterday i was looking to the sky and the same thing happened. I wore my sunglasses and i was ok. It's very weird and i also wonder what it is. I also had several eye and a optic nerve check and i was fine. I had also talked to a neurologist 4 years ago about it but he couldn't really understand, he had no clue! Anyway, eversince it doesn't bother me since i never actually grared for too long in the sky and since i come from a very sunny country, it's not very healthy to look at the sun etc. I would really though, liked to have an answer through that forum from a doctor!i never really had an answer to my question :( . Anyway since i have the same thing 4 years now and eversince i have no problems, dont worry but you can mention to your doctor that this is something that other people see too and could be something normal in the end. Finally, as an advice, dont pay too much attention to floaters and dont count them cause then you will notice many otherwise you wouldnt have. :)

Hani, I can definetly relate to you. Im 26 and have been having the floaters you describe since I was little. For me, its when I go outside and look at the sky there is like 2 clear circles that also"pulsate" their hard to describe! I also get ocular migraines. I have had my eyes thoroughly examined also and everything is fine!
If it were something serious I think you and I would  have "more" problems with our eyes by now

I get that!!!!! i get loadz of floaters and when i look up to the sky i see like flashes of lights just brief, but enough to be recognised.
when i go into a light room into a dark room i get like an after image that could take maybe 1 minute to go away, which is annoying.

my floaters r black, but i also have some which r like cells, and r see through circle, and like a dot n the middle of them....

I suffer from floaters, and I'm 27 years old. I am putting together a fundraising project to jump start a research project at Jules Stein Eye Institute, UCLA, on finding a cure for floaters. It will be the first of its kind, as the eye field has never even attempted to find a cure for floaters. I'm trying to build up a contact list of other people with floaters, so I can get any and all information out to you when it is available about the research project.

If you are interested in finding a cure for floaters, please email me at floaters_7***@**** with your name and email address.

Thanks,
Jen Ambrose

Just a brief comment about the floaters.  Aparently, there is a jelly-like substance behind the eyes and as one ages, bits of it break off abd float around the eye.  They generally disappear after a time.  A visualization of this was on TV a week or so ago.  I only developed floaters a few months ago, and I am 69!  They only lasted about 3 or 4 months.  I didn't think young people were prone to floaters

I'm 25, and have noticed floaters since I was about 5 years old.  I would always try to tell people about the things I saw floating in the air, but no one else could see them :P  I've been assured by my doctor that floaters are normal, and very common.

As far as the strobing pulses of light, I think I know what you mean.  I see these when i go from a bright environment into a dark room - often when I'm trying to go to sleep at night.  I dunno if it's normal or not - they don't bother me much, and I've been experiencing it for years.  I tend to not worry about it, but anything that troubles you with your health should always be discussed with your doctor.  Alot of times, the stress of worrying can affect us much more than any potential underlying problems.
