Ghost letter to left of regular letter

Ghost letter to left of regular letter

I am due to a have a macular hole closed on the 19th on my left eye.  My right eye has 20/25 vision, and I am very near sighted, so have good close up vision.  I noticed that suddenly, might right eye, has a ghost of a letter just to the left when I am reading something. For example the numbers on a watch, if I look a the 7 there is another 7 lighter, to the left of it.  What is happening?

sounds like uncorrected astigmatism OR macular/retinal distortion.

i call this "ghosting" but some call it "monocular diplopia".  you either have some new distortion of your retina/macula on the RIGHT eye, or more likely you have uncorrected or improperly corrected astigmatism in the right eye and you need a new Rx...

I notice now, since I have been up for a while, it is OK.  Also, it seemed worse without my contacts, when I put my contacts in and then used my reading glasses, it didnt happen.  Is there something that can be done if it continues and will it get worse?  Thank you

i doubt it will ever get worse.

"is there something that can be done"...yes...get the correct Rx.  makes sense that it does not happen with your contacts on.  especially if they are RGP/GP contacts that correct for astigmatism

Yes, the contacts correct astigmatsm as I have that bad. too.  I just have never noticed the ghost appearance before when I am not using contacts.  I am very aware of my eyes right now and minute changes.  Thank you again.
