A related discussion,
any procedure to eliminate halos? was started.
I had cataract removal and IOL implants (STAAR ELASTIMIDE® AQ5010V) in both eyes last summer (9/05) and now the right eye only has a halo and that brought me to this forum. I can live with the halo but wonder what causes it? I am soon 68 so cataracts were disappointing but not surprising. Left eye vision is great with the -4 IOL. I was -16 myopic and now I am 20/30 without correction (some astigmatism). Right eye had a detached retina some 30 years ago with scleral buckle which increased the myopia some. Was -20 myopic before the +4 IOL and now am +1.5 diopters. Do you think the buckle threw off the machine that measures the lens correction?
ah now it all makes sense. yes "phakic iol" is totally different from "iol". yes, i'm sure you do have normal near vision.
the comments about the halos/glare are still true. some of it will fade over time, some of it you'll learn to get used to...
Sorry should have been a bit more clear.. it was a Phakic IOL (ICL), never had my original lens extracted.. just the ICL implanted in front of my original lens.
Thanks though for the quick reply. Yeah I was unsuitable for laser because of my thin cornea and funnily enough I was prone to halo vision with laser (large pupils). But I guess that point was mute because I got it anyway.
I mainly had this done because I was unable to cope with the limitations glasses had and my eyes would get bloodshot red wearing contacts (tried all the types.. even the ones you can wear 24 hours).
As for the reading glasses, don't need them. I can still see close but not as close as I could before the implants, there was a small trade off but reading distance and beyond is perfectly fine.
Thanks alot for the comment though, it's definitely helped.
I'd be interested in hearing from people who have had implantable lens' and have had halo's and how long it took for the halo/glares to dissapear and how you cope with it now.
soooo interesting. you had implants to correct moderate myopia? do you have a thin cornea or something? what do you do about "reading" now...reading glasses? b/c i could be wrong but that doesnt look like a multifocal implant.
anyway...dont stress too much about the halos/glare. yes, it usually goes away and even if some of it is permanent your brain kind of learns to deal with it. it has to b/c there's really not much you could do to get rid of it...
most people have floaters and most people who have recently had cataract extraction NOTICE their floaters more after the procedure than they did before.
