LASIK, light therapy, fish oil and flonase

by windbeat, Apr 13, 2006 12:00AM

Hello.

I am writing to ask if you might have any information regarding LASIK and light/phototherapy.  What I'm referring to is one of those light boxes used for Seasonal Affective Disorder and Sleep Disorders which due not emit UV light, but rather blue light.

I use a light box for 30 minutes every morning to regulate my sleep cycle. I am also considering LASIK and wonder if this might exclude me as a candidate or if I'd have to stop using the light for a period of time before/after.  Most ophthalmologists and doctors in general are not familiar with bright light therapy and so information on it is very hard to come by.

I have a few further questions that I'd like to list for simplicity if you don't mind:

a.  Does one generally need to discontinue nasal steroids such as flonase before/after LASIK?

b.  Does one generally need to discontinue fish oil supplements before/after LASIK

c.  When can one return to exercise after LASIK?

Thank you for your time and help.

no blue light therapy as you describe would preclude you from having lasik.  so yes, you are still a candidate for lasik.  no, you do not need to discontinue blue light therapy before lasik.

a) no, i personally do not think you need to stop flonase before lasik
b) no, i personally do not think you need to stop fish oil supplement before lasik
c) i would say about 30 days after lasik you could return to excercise.  that is admittedly conservative...some docs will tell you that you can return to excercise the next day.
