Left Pupil Constantly Dilated

by Ashleyn716, Mar 06, 2006 12:00AM
Hello. In June 2005 I had two friends inform me that my left pupil is larger than my right pupil. Since two people mentioned this for the first time that same month, I thought it was a recent change, but looking back at old photos I think my left pupil has been larger for at least a few years now. The left pupil is larger 24/7. Doing experiments in the bathroom mirror shows that the pupil will get smaller again to the same size as the right pupil when light shines directly into it. It seems to be only in normal light that it is bigger and the right one is smaller.

I have had no unusual headaches, no head injuries, my vision is still perfect and no eye pain either. I haven't had it checked out yet because I don't have insurance; however, after looking online and seeing causes such as brain tumors, I am very frightened right now. Does this sound like an urgent problem, or does it sound like it might be okay to wait until I have insurance again?

we're probably talking about something benign like Adie's pupil.  but you're right, there are some nasty things that cause pupil dilation.  you certainly need testing.  but i personally dont think delaying another few weeks or months would hurt anything.  dont delay *years*...
