Left eye redness

Left eye redness

Hello -

I am a 29 year old male, no health issues at physical 6 months ago.  No history of vision issues.  At last check 3 years ago vision was better than 20/20 out of both eyes.

For serveral months I have had a little bit of dermatitis on my left lower eyelid.  I guess also known as dandruff on the eyelid.  Its mild and comes and goes and has responded to hydrocortisone 1%.  I am trying not to use the hydrocortisone all that much, I have not used it in about a week.  It appears to look ok, I just gently wash the area.

I only mention this because I am not sure if it has anything to do with the mild bloodshoot/redness in my left eye.  Not really itching at all, I have noticed it for about a week.  It just appears more bloodshot compared to my right eye which seems a little whiter and normal from what I can tell.  I can't tell if it is related to the eyelid dermatitis, something from using the hydrocortisone, random, allergy, irritation, etc.

My main concern is that sometimes the vision out of that eye gets a little blurry for a second or two on and off during the day, this has been going on for about a week.

I tried Visine for a few days, didn't seem to do much.  For the past 72 hours I have done nothing but gently wash my face and eye area, no Visine, no medicine of any kind.

It seems mild, but when I notice a little bit of an on and off blur I am a little concerned.

thanks

the on & off blurry vision in that eye is probably not related to the bloodshot/redness/"dermatitis".  those are 2 separate problems.

the redness/"dermatitis" sounds like "blepharitis"...a known causer of redness & irritation.  you probably need to stop using the hydrocortizone as in the case of blepharitis it does not fix the problem, it just "masks" the symptoms.  you need to get rid of the bleph.  if it is staphylococcal bleph you'll likely need topical (eyedrop) or maybe even oral antibiotics. if it is seborrheic bleph you'll need lids scrubs and warm compresses.  no way to know for sure w/o having an eye doc look at it.  "regular" physicians such as family doctors are not usually very good at this sort of thing IMO.  you need to go see an eye doctor.

as for the blurry vision, the most likely scenario is refractive error (need for some amount of glasses/contacts rx).  again, you'd need an eye doc to tell you what to do about it.

the short version is...this is not really fixable via the internet.  someone needs to actually look at your eyes and take measurements.  you need an eye exam.
