MS and Optic Nerve Drusen

by Mrs. Welling, Feb 09, 2006 12:00AM
Dear Sir/Madam,

I was diagnosed with Optic Nerve Head Drusen about 10 years ago. I recently applied for a Mortgage protection/Disability Insurance and was denied for the disablity portion due to my diagnosis. The reason for their denial was that Nerve Head Drusen can cause MS in certain patients. I have done some research into this and I have not found anything linking the two. Can you please advise me of this.

Thank You,

drusen DOES NOT cause MS.  optic nerve drusen may or may not be a SIGN of MS in some patients, but it DOES NOT cause MS.

drusen and MS are not really linked, thats why you cant find much about it.  here's the story:

*SOME* patients who have MS start having a funny looking optic nerve.  and the funny looking optic nerve can appear to be very much like optic nerve drusen.

but some people have optic nerve drusen and DONT have MS, and never develop MS.  the 2 arent really related in my mind.  they are separate diagnoses in my opinion.
