Occular Migraines, cause?

by Navy_mom_of_2, Aug 05, 2005 12:00AM
Hi all,
I was reading old posts in another forum. She described what sounded like an occular migraine. I've had a few in the last 15 years or so. I looked on the internet and found nothing.
Has anyone out there had a doctor explain what that is? I'm just curious. Thanks!

Hi...I get optical migrains weekly.I see rainbow colored zig-zag lines that move from one side of my vision to the other...they last about 30 minutes. My Neruo said its the blood vessel's in the brain shrinking and expanding. He said to take a asprin and lay down and try to relax.

I had what my ophthalmologist called ocular migraines for about 8 years.  Every 15-30 minutes I would get white dynamic glob-like flashes in the upper left portion of my vision.  Turns out that they were not due to an ocular migraine but were directly associated with a growing tractional retinal detachment in that area that started 10 years ago.  I recently had surgery to correct the detachment, but no lost vision has returned.  Flashes are a known symptom of possible retinal detachment.  Be sure that your ophthalmologist rules it out.  I should have gotten a second opinion long ago, please don't make the same mistake.  Good luck to you.
