Persistant hyperplastic primary vitreous PHPV

by lovingmomof2, Jan 02, 2006 12:00AM
I have a Daughter that is 7 years old and has PHPV in the left eye,She has no vision in this eye? She wears a sceleral shell, like a false eye that fits in over her eye, It really looks good. That eye sometimes has like mucus or infection like substance that comes out, mostly only once a year? I was wondering if this is from her eye condition or maybe where we are not taking it out as often to clean it? Our Doc, that made this eye said only if it is bothering her to take it out and clean it, so she does leave it in for long amounts of time!!
thanks

i am assuming your daughter has microphthalmia, hence the prosthetic.

yes, it is probable that your daughter is "legally blind" in that eye, and possibly even completely blind.  no big deal once you know what you're dealing with.  God gave us 2 eyes for a reason.

leaving the prostetic in for extended periods doesnt sound like an awesome idea to me.  they generally need to be cleaned fairly regularly, but i dont deal with those very often, so i am going to defer to the person who made her the prosthetic.
