Red eyes / swollen eye lid / stye

Both my eyes get bloodshot every night.  When I wake up in the morning they are still bloodshoot but they clear up with in about an hour.  They stay clear until about 7:00 pm. My left eye has a swollen eyelid and had a stye for about 2 months.  One day this eyelid became very irritated until a bb sized white deposite came out of the eyelid.  The eylid is still swollen and when I metioned it to my eye doctor he told me to put a hot compress on it.  The compress did not help. Also my left eye has blurred vision that seems to be caused by a discharge. When I blink it gets worse and the longer I keep my eye open the better it gets. Any advice is appreciated.

if you are a contact lens wearer, you need to stop wearing contacts for awhile.

if you are using or have used visine or naphcon-a or opcon-a or any over-the-counter eyedrops that contain naphazoline or tetrahydrozoline you need to stop immediately and go see an eye doc to have an evaluation.

having constantly red eyes could have many causes.  probably one of the more likely scenarios is BLEPHARITIS.  that would explain the "stye" combined with the chronically red eyes.  mild blepharitis can be solved with "lid scrubs":

moderate-to-severe bleph usually requires Rx medical intervention with oral antibiotics like tetracycline, or anti-inflamatory/antibiotic eyedrops like zylet or a combination of those 2 in ADDITION to lid scrubs.

again, if you are a contact lens wearer or a tetrahydrozoline user, the above may not apply.

another common cause of chronic bilateral red eyes is ocular allergy.  you would need Rx antihistamines to solve that.

yet another common cause of chronic bilateral red eyes is clinically dry eye.  you would need lubricant eyedrops and possibly oral omega 3 fish oil supplements to solve that.

the real answer is...you need an eye exam.  your problems could have many causes or even have multiple causes at the same time.  the complaints you listed are not really specific anough for anyone to immediately know whats wrong with you w/o looking at your eye.  somebody needs to look.

P.S. My eye doctor put me on Antibiotic/Anti-inflamitory Steroidal drops that seemed to work but as soon as I came off of them the same stuff happens.  After these drops he put me on Acular (Non-Steroidal Anit-inflamitory drops), he said these are for allergies but they did not help at all.

ah.  sorry i didnt have that info before i replied.

so you could still have chronic bleph and/or ocular allergy.  i am not a big fan of acular for "allergy".  but to each his/her own i guess.  i dont think it works well for that.  i like true antihistamines like optivar/patanol/zaditor better for ocular alergy (allergy).  or even mild steroids like alrex.

i think you should probably start doing lid scrubs and see if that helps.  you cant be on antibiotic/steroid combo eyedrops for very long...
