Strange eye symptoms

by KatieP, Sep 13, 2006 12:00AM
Dear Sirs

I have had migraines with aura for the last 7 years, which started a few months after the birth of my second child. I am currently 38 years old, and basically was reassured by my GP that they were nothing to worry about, although I was advised to stop taking the combined Pill. I
I have been lucky in that I only have 1-2 migraines per year, which begin with a classic blind, scintillating spot, which progresses to a Cshape, and then progresses out of my field of vision, before the headache (lasting 3-4 hours) kicks in.
My problem now is this: for the last few months I have been getting a round flickery spot in the centre of my vision which lasts for 2-5 minutes, and appears pixellated. It is in both eyes , however appears as a dark splodge when my eyes are closed - not at all like when I have a migraine. It almost invariably happens when I come into the house after being outside, and in the morning after dropping off my kids at school. It also tends to appear just when my period is due. It does not result in a headache, although the last time it happened, I got a full migraine 2 days later. I also get very tired eyes, which are often puffy in the mornings, and sometimes struggle to focus when reading. I have visited the optician for an eye test (including visual field and glaucoma), and that was normal apart from a slight astigmatism and a number of floaters. In fact she said it was down to changes in the weather!! I have been to the GP again, who basically wasnt concerned, but couldnt give me an answer, so Im hoping you can help!! Many thanks,KatieP

none of that sounds concernign to me, either.  those are not at all like the symptoms of any eye problem...that all sounds like varying forms of migraine/ocular migraine.

i am not telling you that you are "fine", but i am telling you that you (most likely) do not have a retinal or eye problem.  those still sound like migraine symptoms, even if they are not like your "usual" migraine arua that you've had in the past.

i wouldnt worry a bit.
