Toddler's eye twitches

by EthanC, Jun 09, 2005 12:00AM
My 18 month old has been twitching his left eye from time to time for about a month.  We notice it the most when he's watching TV.  He would twitch his left eye about every 10 seconds when watching TV.  Sometimes he would get really close to the TV and it doesn't seem like he twitches that much.  He's also twitched his left eye randomly throughout the day but again, we notice it the most when he's watching TV.

He did have a sinus infection recently and was treated with amoxicilin.  We also thought it might be lazy eye but his left eye moves fine.

What do you think it could be?

Hi, my daughter is eight years old and she has episodes of her left eye twitching. She also gets headaches and upset stomach. I don't know if they are related or not. She has seen an opthamologist and doesn't need glasses. I also had one episode of intense eye twitching that wouldn't stop. I was really stressed out but as soon as the stress was gone so was the twitching.

Stress is a major factor in causing eye twitching,it could be a mild form of dystonia which is a continual twitching of the eye, usually so hard and fast that the eye actually  swells and stops twitching altogether. It can cause migraine headaches,it is treated by using BOTOX injections to relax the muscles.Unless the child is often fussy, that is probably not the case.I would have it checked out by a pediatric ophthamologist if you are worried. It could be something as simple as allergies!
