The most common cause would be Blepharitis. The meibomian glands in the eye lids get stopped up and cause itching and blurred vision. Warm soaks with a wash cloth followed by eye lid scrubbing with baby shampoo helps but she definately needs to see an ophthalmologist or therapeutic optom for diagnosis.
What I was referring to was that she has an allergy related history and that it could be an allergy to something and I didn't know if she wore contact lenses or not, so I thought it might be of interest to her to think of an allergy as maybe a cause. I do not wear contact lenses anymore and still have the allergy to dye. Also, if she is waking up with it, couldn't it be an allergy to her pillows (such as feathers)? My family has many allergies, so I also think of that first. Just trying to give her another cause to consider.
Hi, I had something similar happen to me. When I was in my early 20's I started to coat my contact lenses within 20 minutes of having them on my eyes. They were coated totally white when he would remove them from my eyes. Also my lids developed these tiny bumps which in turn itched. My doctor was stumped, but then we figured out the problem. It was just about the time they started to put a visatint in the contact lenses to make them easier to see if you dropped them. Well, it turns out that I developed an allergy to the dye. As long as I wore completely clear lenses, I was ok. Well, this allergy advanced to the point that I cannot wear any mascara, eye shadow, eye liner etc. on my eyes (anything with dye or coloring in it) or it completely coats my eyes. They also will itch. It is like I have a film over my eyes. I only wash my face with Ivory soap and wear absolutely no makeup on my eyes or near them. Then everything is fine. It stinks, I know. But you might want to think of this and try not wearing anything on your eyes. Also, do not use an oily eye makeup remover or lotions around the eyes as they can cause you to film up too. Hope this helps.
those problems are not related. one is from contact lens wear and the 1st post is not.
wearing contacts and having "allergy" is totally different than having itch/allergy when a person is a non-contact lens wearer. the only similarity is that they both itch.
too many possibilities. sorry! you need a full comprehensive eye examination. i would love to try and help you, but the possibilities would make this a 5 page post. there's too much going on...you need an eye exam.
