Vision Therapy

by buggaboo2, Feb 17, 2006 12:00AM
My daughter will start regular vision therapy sessions in 2 weeks!  I am very excited now that we have the insurance and everything under control. I am still concerned with the pediatric opth. If you have any advice on how to plead my case to him I would be forever grateful.  I sched. an appointment with him for next week, I had them sched. it for a parent meeting not an exam even though I will bring dtr withme.  I plan to take as much charge as I can muster and tell him that this is the path I plan to take and request his support and cooperation with the OD.  I hope this is the best approach and I hope it works- I am well aware that this may cost my dtr her opth. but there are plenty more out there who are experienced with her issues.  Thanks a bunch for your support.

what case would you be pleading?  are you worried that your ophthalmologist will refuse to see her if you do VT with the OD?  i seriously doubt your ophthalmologist will care if you do VT...but if he gets weird about it...there are plenty of ophthalmologists out there.

i personally think your daughter probably needs both VT and periodic follow up with a pediatric ophthalmologist...

my daughter absolutely needs both but my concern is that the OD is already wanting to change her glasses RX.  I can't have one doc doing one thing and the other contradicting it.  I totally feel that they should both be in agreement with all changes in her rx and overall eye car.  she has an extensive history and it would be terrible to loose any progress due to the lack of comunication and cooperation of both docs.

Where does one find Vision insurance that covers Vision therapy?

by Lu An, Mar 07, 2006 12:00AM
In my experiance vision therapy is something that was cooked up to help you spend your money and I am very surprised that any insurance company would cover its cost.  How old is your daughter and what is her history?  Has she had eye muscle surgery? Are the glasses for eye muscle control?  I would not waste my money on vision therapy.  It has never been proven to help.  I'm afraid I have to side with the ophthalmologist.
