Waste Deposits in periphial area of eye

Waste Deposits in periphial area of eye

My son is 17 and recently developed a problem while playing baseball.  He began to have difficulty seeing baseball while catching / hitting.  After several eye exams & office visits, a rentina specialist has determined that he has a rare problem with waste deposits in his eyes. A lack of a certain enzyme allows these waste deposits to buildup.  We were told that if these deposits were in the middle of his eye, he would be blind.  Do you know what the prognosis is for this?  Is there anything we can do to cure this problem.  Surgery?  Medications?  Will this get progressively worse?

"waste deposits" in the peiphery of his eye sounds like "drusen" to me.  did he mention drusen?  if thats what it is, then NO...no medication or surgery or anything else that i know of will solve the problem.

will it get worse?  dont know.  its certainly possible, but not predictable.

i dont know off the top of my head of other "deposits" he would have other than drusen.  i mean there are other retinal deposits, but not that are usually 1st diagnosed at age 17, and not that are usually described as "waste deposits".

My 15 year old daughter was recently diagnosed as having optial nerve Drusen (Lipid fat deposits in the nerve bundle. It sounds like your son has the same condition. Although my daughter now has 20/20 vision in her central vision, she too has some dark spots in her periphial sight. I was told that there is no treatment or cure. I have not been unable to obtain any information about this condition. If you have or need info, please e-mail me ***@****
