What is dialation's effect on a Strabismus patient?

by ccam, Oct 15, 2005 12:00AM
Is it accurate for a Pediatric opthamologist to ***** a patient with Strabismus and the need for surgury if they have never seen the patient before and only examined them after their eyes were dialated? My concern is that after the eyes are dialated they may look more crossed then they actually are.

interesting.  if the patient has an accommodative component to his/her strab, then yes, its possible that dilation may affect the measurement of the amount of strab deviation, but i would think the eyes would look "LESS" crossed while dilated if that was the case.
if you're worried, get a second opinion.  no strab surgery is emergent, you've got some time.
