abnormal pupil size

abnormal pupil size

I was born with 2 congenital cataracts.  I had my left one removed 8/2004 with an IOL.

Last month I came down with c-diff from an antibiotic and at one point I noticed my pupils were unevenly sized.

This happened again this saturday and I e=went to the ER and which they gave me a CT scan that came back normal andsaid I had a migrane (migraine).

Thursday I went to my optometrist and he ran field of vision tests (normal) and did an exam(normal).  He found that my eyes are reacting normally to light but are unevenly sized in regular light.  Nerves are normal.

I go see my opthamologist next friday.

I'm worried that I may have a brain tumor or something along those lines.

Any idea of what could be going on??

different pupil size (called anisocoria) is interesting, but usually not too concerning, especially if you've already had testing that showed no significant problems (visual field test, CT, etc).  Yes, there are some bad things that cause anisocoria like tumors, aneurysms, etc. but most of those ALSO cause vision loss like very blurry vision or visual field loss.  Most of those would also show up on a CT.  The fact that your optic nerves look fine to your optometrist (meaning no optic neuritis), and you have shown no vision loss in his testing means to me that its pretty unlikely that anything serious/emergent is occurring.  Still possible, I guess, but unlikely.

The more probable scenario given your history so far is Horner's syndrome (sympathetic nerve damage), or Adie's pupil (ciliary nerve damage), neither of which is usually serious.  Keep your appt with your ophthalmologist, but until then try to stay calm...

I forgot to mention when I was 7 months pregnant (had my son 8/9) my vision in my left eye where I had my implant went from 20/40 to 20/70.  The opthamologist told me that I need to have my lens lasered off.  Also it should clear up within 3 months after having my son and it has not.
