astigmatism or?

by rsu, Jul 28, 2006 12:00AM
First of all sorry for my bad English as English is not my native language.

I am a 23 year old hypochondriac male, I working as a computer programmer so I have to look at monitor everyday, this February after a stressful and anxious period, my eyesight was getting worse and developed a lot of floaters in both eyes.

I went to an optometrist and she checked both of my eyes, and she said I need a pair of glasses (I didn’t wear glass before but my eyesight wasn’t perfect either), she found that I am slightly nearsighted and there’s sligt astigmatism in both eye (but astigmatism in my left eye wasn’t strong enough to be corrected), she also found that my tear’s quality wasn’t good enough before my tear will go away in just 3 seconds and I have to blink every 3 seconds.

Now with my glasses I have a very good vision. But there is something that I concerned.

Everyday after working at office, at the end of the day my vision is worse than  the morning, I can feel both eyes very dry, and if I look at some light source far away (such as a traffic light) in the dark, there’s a slight double vision (monocular diplopia) in both of my eyes, that - looks like a =. But that’s only happen for distanced light source in the pure darkness, closed vision is ok.

I wonder are all these symptoms caused by my nearsightedness and astigmatism, or there’s something more serious I need to concern?

Thank you very much!

yes, those are caused by your nearsightedness and astigmatism.  no there is nothing more serious that you need to be concerned about.

astigmatism is no big deal.  you've probably always had it.  astigmatism means some portion of your visual system (usually your cornea) is not exactly spherical, and has a little bit of "cylindrical" shape to it.  astigmatism is totally benign and no big deal.  VERY COMMON
