bright spot in vision

by steph75, Mar 29, 2006 12:00AM
Hello, I am very near sighted. I have several floaters that don't
really bother me anymore. I also have astigmatism in my left eye and  wear
contacts. I have been noticing a bright spot after I blink my eyes. I
notice it more when I am looking at the computer screen or something
light. It is only there for a second after I blink and doesn't come back
till I blink again. Is this something like a floater? Or related to
astigmatism? I have also noticed at night, when I open my eyes quickly after
having them closed, I see a dark spot. That goes away quickly as well.
It is just like the white spot during the day. Can you please help me
with this? As I am wondering what is going on. Thanks so much.

no light or dark spot is realted to astigmatism or contacts.

"flashes" is a *possible* sign of retinal problems.  take that with a grain of salt...it is just possible, not probable.  but what you describe (light and dark spots) sounds to me like an entopic phenomenon called "pressure phosphene".  you would need an exam to rule out retinal problems
