cone and/or rod dystrophy

cone and/or rod dystrophy

hi again
i have posted previously about small scotomas scattered around my vision that do not show up on a visual field test. the retinal specialist has not been able to detect anything amiss. they have been occurring over a period of 8-10 years and begin as what looks like the after-image of a camera flash, then fade to small blind spots over weeks.
my question is, could this be the beginning of some kind of dystrophy? or would there be other symptoms or signs that would alert the doctor? such as some degree of color blindness or changes in the retina?
i am REALLY worried it is the benning of something that can not be seen objectively by the doctor yet?
or am i being paranoid?

"could this be the beginning of some kind of dystrophy?"

possibly.  but it would be really hard to detect "early" distrophy.  no, no other signs that would "alert" the doc.

it is possible that you are being paranoid.  it is also possible that you have the "beginning" of something.  who knows?

but retinal specialists are adept at looking for ANY retinal changes.  if there was something there, he'd have found it.  he's looking for (and apparently not finding yet) way more things than you think he is.

if you were seen by a retinal specialist and he didnt find ANYTHING, then its unlikely that there's any problem there.

the reason i ask about the time frame is that it's been 8-10 years, and still no "objective" evidence ... about 2 years ago, i did have some kind of retinal scan, where i looked into a machine and the doctor sat on the other side and looked at a computer image. i don't know what it was called. i also had an ERG when this first started and a fluroscein angiogram ... that was in australia.
here, i have only had two dilated exams and still nothing ..
the doctors here seem reluctant to do further testing, in the absence of any findings on the dilated exam ...
would you expect that over the course of eight years, if there was something weriously wrong, they would have found something?
