confused about flashes and afterimages

by nap, Jun 08, 2006 12:00AM
I have recently had my pupils dilated afew weeks ago because i was worried about floaters and flashes i was experiencing.  The eye doctor said that other than afew atrophic holes in periferal retina i was fine.  However since the dilation i am noticing after images alot more.  I saw a little flashing cirular dot in my vision the other day outside on a sunny day.  It was there when i looked at the sky too!  Dont know if its an after image or not? I also notice very apparent flashing against white walls if i look at a light for only a very short time!  I seem to have alot more floaters this year and get tiny brief streak of light in side vision when standing up or turning my head quickily or walking into duller room!  I am  alot more obsessed in looking for problems now, i just want to relax and could really do with some reasurance.  I have seen 2 doctors already who couldnot find anything.

i do not think any of those symptoms sound like they are due to retinal problems.  especially if 2 docs cant find anything.  i think you are noticing afterimages (spot in sky) and pressure phosphenes (streak when moving eye).  none of those sound like true "flashes" from a retinal problem.  try not to worry about any of that.  the chances that both docs are missing some huge retinal problem are miniscule.
