high myopia

My son started wearing glasses at 15 months with -9 nearsightedness.  Now he is seven and it is at -13.5.  I just have concerns about other children with nearsightedness this severe and their ability to function in the classroom.  my child is in the first grade and has a hard time seeing the board and his teacher (who is wonderful) enlarges his worksheets when she feels it is necessary.  Just wondering what accomodations, if any, others have made for children with this problem.  Also any suggestions would be helpful.  I feel like his school is too concerned with the finacial aspect of any accomodations now as well as in the future for him. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

contact lenses as soon as possible.  right now if you havent already.  his acuity at every distance will be better in contacts.  if you dont think he's "old" enough or "responsible" enough, then do it for him.  if you've already done it then good for you!

as for making handouts larger, etc...is he also "low vision"?

They have no business being concerned with the financial aspects of accomodating him.  You must be his advocate and insist on what you feel is best for him.  It is their responsibility by law to do whatever is needed.  Good luck.
