i'll try to make this my last question ... i have lots of floaters and they dart when i move my eye, sometimes "settling" out of my central vision ...
this symptom i am having isn't like that at all - it is much larger (almost the width of my eye, it seems) and more like an opaque grey cloud than a cobweb. it moves with my eye and is fixed. i can see it best when i close one eye and squint, and when i blink (when i becomes more intense, like it's pulsing or somthing). also, as with my floaters, i can see it when my eyes are closed ...
it's weird, huh?
if you think it is benign, i could probably get used to it but i am terrified it is going to "spread" into my central vision ...

that's very reassuring about the scar ... the first person i saw panicked when he saw the scar and said i would have to have laser to stop a detachment ... the second doctor (a specialist admittedly) kinda shrugged about it.

yes, i see the questions posted in threads like this one.

yes, it is VERY COMMON for changes/thickening of vitreous to cast shadows.  they're called "flaoters".  very common.

yes, very common to have "scars" in your peripheral retina.  agreed they are not causing your symptoms.

Not sure if you are going to see this question, but i'll ask anyway ...
is it possible for changes/thickening in the vitreous gel to cast shadows in the retina??
also, the doctor said i had a scar on my retina, but added that is was quite common, that she saw a lot of them, and that it was not causing my symptoms .... does that sound strange to you?

if you are a former smoker you shouldnt take ocuvite until you've quit for many years.  says so in the package insert (i think).  high doses of beta-carotine actually INCREASES the risk for lung cancer in smokers.

you could take a "smoker's formula" with reduced beta-carotine...

thank you once again ... your replies are always most informative ... out of curiousity, why shouldn't you take acccuvite and smoke? (I stopped smoking a few days before starting to take accuvite)

ocuvite is fine.  it will not fix any eye problem of any kind.  it should not be used AT ALL if you are a smoker.

the only thing ocuvite is good for is *possibly* (and this is debatable) slowing the progression of macular degeneration.  it will have no affect on any other eye condition of any kind.

also, what is your opinion on vitamin supplements for the eyes, eg acuvite?

probably.  in theory if the PVD was still detaching, it might get dicey b/c you could pull retina of.  but if the PVD has already occurred, then jogging is fine
