left eye hurting everytime i blink

by chloe_miel, May 06, 2007 12:00AM
hello. for the past two days, i have been having this problem. i try to not blink so much. i just have this feeling that something is in my eye, but nothing is there! i feel it evertime i blink! it's even making my eye all teary.

this is only on my left eye. i'm hoping that it will clear away the next few days. if it doesnt, should i see an eye doctor? i'm really worried. my mom says i must have a bump in my eye, but i dont see anything in my eye or eyelid. she doesnt want to take me to the doctor, even if it hurts this much.

for most of the day i have been trying to sleep because that's when i dont feel the pain. so far i have triedto research this problem and have found nothing helpful in this area... i thank you greatly if you respond.

'i'm hoping that it will clear away the next few days. if it doesnt, should i see an eye doctor?'

yes.  you probably have backside eyelid inflammation like 'GPC' (giant papillary conjunctivitis) or allergic conjunctivitis, neither of which is dangerous.  both are treatable.  you could also have corneal inflammatory problems like SPK (superficial punctate keratitis) if it is painful.  also no big deal.

this is not emergent.  but you do need to see an eye care professional to have it managed if it does not resolve quickly.

After reading the prior comment, I resolved to post my self-same question here as it seems to be similar....very...

Everytime I blink or shift my eyes quickly it feels like I've been sucker-punched with somebody's knuckle right under my left eye.  Its been going on for roughly two days and regardless of painkillers the pain has been growing.

I'm worried, but I don't know if I should be concerned.

Thanks!

Can you schedule an appt with an eye care professional?  You might have something in your eye that you can't see that needs to be fished out.

unlikely to have a foreign body in there unless you've been grinding metal.

much more likely to have an inflammatory problem.  still need to see a doc tho
