pain with eye movement

by sympa, Dec 20, 2006 12:00AM
I am a 29 year old female with no health insurance (i will have insurance as of january 1st, 2007)
for the past 3 days, i have been experiencing pain upon moving my eyes.  i haven't had any headaches or loss of vision.  for the last couple of weeks, my eyelids have twitched at various intervals.  i'm unsure if these two things are related.
i've also had a difficult time concentrating for the past several weeks and at times, difficulty in expressing my thoughts coherently.
i hope i am not wasting anyone's time by bringing all of these things up, but i have no idea what, if anything is related.

the main reason that i'm posting is the pain in my eyes when i move them.  it feels like a sharp ache or strain.  this morning when i woke up, the pain was much worse than when i went to bed last night.  as i've been up a couple of hours, the pain has diminished but not gone away.

will it be ok for me to wait on going to the dr. for this until my health insurance kicks in?

thanks so much for your time.

the twitching is no big deal.  MYOKYMIA:

http://www.emedicine.com/oph/topic607.htm

its a totally benign condition that has many causes, some unknown.    one of the biggest known causers is lack of sleep/stress.  i myself have sufferred from this for the last 2-3 days.  more sleep, less stress, oral/topical antihistamines, warm compresses...all of those would help.  but its nothing to be concerned about, and it unlikely to be related to the pain on eye movement.

if the pain is not excruciating, and occurs in BOTH eyes, and you are not a contact lens wearer, then yes you can probably safely wait till after the 1st.

thank you for your reply.  i do not wear glasses or contact lenses.  the pain is only occuring in my left eye.  it hasn't gotten any worse today throughout the course of my day.  if fact, it was bothering me much more this morning when i woke up and being awake for a little while, it improved but the pain has still been with me throughout the day.
the pain is not so bad that i cannot function or work.  it is quite annoying though.

any more thoughts that you might have, i'll appreciate very much.

thanks again for your time.

another thing...if that eye gets very blurry or red or both along with that pain, then you need to be seen asap.  could be possible angle closure glaucoma.

but if its only painful with NO redness and NO blurry vision or vision loss, then IMO thats less alarming...

thank you again for your insight.  if it continues as it has up to this point, i will go to the dr when my insurance kicks in.

happy holidays to you and yours.
