partial pvd

partial pvd

Many thanks for your response last week in relation to my partial pvd in both eyes & other eye problems. Also, sorry I should have also asked previously the below questions previously, but would be most grateful for your response - very anxious, but trying not to be!!: -

I understand that my pvd wouldn't have been caused by the lasek procedure itself, but, could it have been by straining my eyes on the vdu?(due to them being so blurry).

Is there anything I can do to protect myself from further problems with my partial pvd, such as not running/jogging?

Is there usually a timeframe for the remainder of the vitreous to detach? And would this be a good thing as I think if this happens without any further problems, then I'd be at less risk of retinal problems, than I am now?.

As this partial pvd has happended early (31yrs old), am I to expect to be plagued by more and more floaters than I would if it had happened in my old age?

Are normal vitreous floaters easier for the brain to tune out than pvd floaters becuase of the vitreous moving, or can lots of people with pvd floaters still tune them out, as I am struggling and keep praying that they'll go!

Sorry last question, the Dr's left me on steroid drops for 4 months and my IOP's went up to mid 20's but now are 12 and 14 respectively, would this have caused any long term problems?

Thank you for your help, much appreciated

NO.  nothing you could do would have any effect on whether or not you had or did not have a pvd.

"Is there anything I can do to protect myself from further problems with my partial pvd, such as not running/jogging?"

no.  unlikely that running or jogging would have any effect.  you should avoide JARRING head activities/injuries such as say kickboxing.  but jogging/normal excercise is totally fine.

no time frame.  might not ever detach.  yes, full detachment would put you at less risk for retinal prioblem later.  continuing partial detachment puts you at more risk for retina problems later

no.

"normal" floaters are usually much smaller than PVD floaters

"Sorry last question, the Dr's left me on steroid drops for 4 months and my IOP's went up to mid 20's but now are 12 and 14 respectively, would this have caused any long term problems?"

no.  highly unlikely.

Kadybetty,

See we both have a PVD and the horrilbe floaters as a result. I also have a Weiss's ring, as well as the gel that floats in my line of vision, in addition to the strains. From your post, I hear you having the same concern that I have. You are also worried that because of the PVD, and larger floaters, you wonder if it will be more difficult to eventually get rid of them.  Or is this a life sentence.
My Retinal Specialist said today that they will act as any floater.  He said that the will either drop out of the line of vision,  go to the periphery, or the brain will tune them out.  He said it will take at least many months .  But he did say that they will respond as floaters that are not from a PVD even though they are larger than floaters that are not from a PVD. Hope that this can give you some comfort, as I know the anxiety that you are experiencing.  Best wishes to you. K-D

K-D, many thanks for your comments.  I have had my pvd floaters for nearly 10 months now and still no sign of going, but I keep praying! (And its both eyes too).  I hope that yours go soon.  Have you had a complete pvd, as you have the weiss ring?

Best wishes.

Kady,

Yes, I have had a complete PVD 6 months after cataract surgery..  I am not an eye doctor, or any eye professional,  but maybe the reason that your floaters have not decreased is because they cannot fall below you line of vision since the break is not complete.  Maybe after the PVD is complete, you will get some relief.  Kady, I can so relate to your anxiety. It is impossible to get it off your mind because it is aways there. I know it sounds minor to many people, but it is life altering.  The anxiety is awful. And I have only had it for a month. I am so sorry that you have to go through this at such an early age.  So, unfair. I wish I could console you more.  But It seems that the break is bound to complete  and then the floaters will  fall below the line of vision. I certainly hope, so for both or sakes. Wishing you the VERY best!

Kady
