ring of flickering lights

Hi,
can someone please give me some info.

With both eyes i see a ring of flickering light.
It is hollow......and is straight ahead wherever i look.
It is always there since 2 weeks.
I see a smaller brightish pattern when i close my eyes.

I find nothgn on the internet that mentions a hollow ring of this type....it is the same for each eye if closing one at a time and when both eyes open.

I can still see to work, but reading is more difficult.

Any info much appreciated...thanks phil.

Hi, I have been having these flashing ring of lights for quite some years now. The eye doctor i saw told me they were optical migraines. They will last for up to 20 minutes then i would have a pain in my temple for a short time afterwards.
i am now 46 years old and i have only had about 10 episodes all told but they really disrupt your eyesight. I can see straight ahead but nothing on the side of my vision.
Hope this helps

Phil, Do not delay in seeing the doctor. Those are the exact symptoms I had and was diagnosed with a PVD, which could lead to a tear, which could lead to a   retinal detachment.I was rechecked in a month. It may be benign as Dr Prince said.  But if is isn't, the time factor is very important.

you need to go to an eye doctor and have a dilated fundus/retinal exam.  you might have retinal/vitreal traction.

(you might also be experiencing something benign like ocular migraine, but no one will know until someone looks)
