seeing more frequent flashes

Hello, I have had scleral buckle on my right eye close to 3 years ago and on my left eye close to about 2 years ago.  My right eye now continues to get flashes and see flashes also in my left eye but not as often.  I still see small floaters in both my eyes, now the problem that i am noticing is that my left eye are getting flashes more frequently now, even though they are in the same pattern.  I tend to get it when im just relaxing, when i am active i tend not to see any flashes in both eyes.  I have a sleeping problem where I sleep late (around 3am) and High Blood Pressure, does any of this have any effect on RD?  Is this something for me to be concerned about?  Is seeing flashes for this long after surgery still considered normal?  Thanks for the help and response.

Hey doc, thanks for the response.  I have been under a lot of stress and my eyes has been dry and tired lately, do you think that could be the cause of the frequent flashes that i have been seeing?  I have made an apointment, but they have no openings until july 26.  Just trying to figure this out, i hated this feeling when i had to go through my first surgery, and i hope that i will never have to do it again, but i am a young person(26), so i am just worried.  thanks for the info.

impossible to put a percentage on it.

no, nothing you can do to "prevent" another retinal problem other than the obvious: avoid jarring head and eye injuries (auto accidents, fights, etc)

So you said that i have a greater risk that i can develop RD again.  What sort of percentage are we talking about here and is there anything that i can do to prevent another tear or hole in my retina?  I recently talk to my doctor that preformed my surgery, but he is no longer around anymore and he told me that everything should be ok and that flashes are normal just as long as i do not have any vision lost or any corner shadows.  i have an apt for next month (that is the soonest that they can see me).  I dont know what else to say.  Thanks for the help

people with a buckle will continue to see flashes for many years.  probably forever.  a buckle is not a nice thing.

you need periodic frequent visits to the retinal surgeon/specialist.  you are in the high risk category for repeated problems.

BP & sleep disorders usually do not have much affect on retinal detachment.
