still seeing flashes after retinal detachment repair--- how long might it last?

I had a retinal detachment repaird on 7 Nov.
the operation went very well, and the detachment is fixed with a scleral sponge.

my problem was caused by some liquid leaking from the eye and staying between the eyeball and the retina.
this pushed the retina away from my eye.

the dr could have "broken" the bubble of liquid but did not, because of risk of infection.
the idea is that the scleral buckle will put pressure on the eye and the liquid will be re-absorbed (the symptom of this liquid is a white "flash" every now and then. - particularly if I change the position of my head when lying down.

I'm wondering if anyone here has had this experience and how long the flashes continued in your case.

thanks
(btw, at 4 weeks past surgery today my vision is doing REALLY well.  I will need glasses, but they won't have to be very strong)

thats a great story!  i'm so glad its working we for you.  in general, having flashes like you describe after buckle surgery is not too concerning.  make sure and mention it to your surgeon at your next follow up.  how long could the flashes last?  some patients have them for months...

thanks for the reply. I will discuss it with my own dr - I'll have an appt. before Christmas.

I am so pleased with the results - I've read other threads where people have had terrible pain and headaches, not to mention the vision problems.....I certainly have been forutnate. The pain was minimal, double vision only lasted for a couple of days, and a minor change to my vision.

I had scleral buckle suregery in Nov 2005.  My vision in that eye is almost back to normal.  I do see light flahes often and was told by my surgeon not to worry, but consider that the new baseline for that eye.

Hey all - I had retinal surgery in Feb of 2005 - the buckle and the gas and the whole deal - its now almost a year later and I still see flashes - esp in periods of overuse - harsh light or bright sun still bothers me ect. I was told this is normal - and that some people will see flashes for years after a "sucessfull" surgery - Im always worried, of course, because you think it's happening all over again. I was told that sometimes people can experience similar symptoms post surgery the same as before it happened - it's apprently normal?  Sometimes I'll feel a pulling feeling - and the genreal sense that it will never feel quite right, but it;s normal.....anyone else have a similar experience seeing flashes months and months after sucessfull surgey?

Cheers
Bailey
