After Macular pucker & silicone oil removal surgery

Hello, I have had 3 surgeries for RD since January.(Victrectomy x3, gas bubble, buckle)  Currently, I have a silicone oil retained eye and retina is looking good.  At last M.D. visit, it was noted I have a macular pucker and it is causing wavy lines.  My doc said he would fix that when the oil is removed.  If retina stays stable, oil will be taken out after 6 months.

My next visit is 6 weeks out.  I am just curious to know of what is typical and other's experiences.  Is a vitrectomy done?  Will I have a gas bubble afterwards?  How soon after both procedures should I see some improvement in my vision? My vision in operative eye is 20/200 right now.  Of course, I will address these with my retinal surgeon at next visit, also.  Thanks!!

Mostly what I expected.  I will do whatever is necessary to save my vision/eye no matter how uncomfortable.  Posturing is the worst for me.  I just like to have an idea of what's to come as I work full time and have a 6 y/o with ADHD to boot!

We are keeping a close watch on my fellow eye.  It looked good at last visit after preventive laser on several weak areas a month ago.  I know from reading many of your posts that you have been through  much more with both of your eyes.  How do you deal with the mental stress of it all?!

Thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience!! It is truly helpful.  Good luck and God bless you in your journey.

You may end up with a gas bubble after the removal, but that depends on many factors. Yes, a victrectomy is done prior to epiretinal membrane peel. Even after the membrane peel and oil removal you may still have slight visual distortion in the eye. It will take time for the eye to heal but hopefully the vision will improve.

My vision with the oil was 20/200 too. After the oil was removed a vitrectomy and c3f8 bubble was inserted. At week 5 post-op my vision was 20/200 with gas at about 25%. So I still have a few more weeks to go before the bubble is completely gone. I'm also aphakic. However, I think that my vision will improve a bit more. .

Good luck to you.
