price for pterygium surgery

Is $4,000 an average price for pterygium surgery? Is this the cost per eye.

My Pterygium excision with auto graft cost me in $AUD;

+ surgeon $3,100 (~ $2500 after health insurance rebate)
+ anesthetist $600 (~ $250 after health insurance rebate)
+ pathologist $80 (after health insurance rebate)
+ antibacterial / steroid eye drops  $50

It's nearly impossible to estimate your own costs because there are far too many variables dependent on your country, chosen surgeon, method, health insurance etc.

I could have gone with a much cheaper surgeon (~ $1000) but paid the extra for the experienced hand working on my eye)

edit: forgot to mention there were no hospital costs for me as it was completely covered by insurance, that could be extra for you
