16mth old with PHPV

Hi my 16mth old son has just been diagnosed with PHPV which has obviously come as a shock, whilst reading various information is appears this condition is quite rare. He will have his first operation Monday 13th June to remove scar tissue here in the UK.  I would please like to know
1) can this condition been improved so my son has a good quality eyesight
2) A common side condition of PHPV is "small eye" -would I know by now if he has this? both eyes are the same size, same colour and he can control his eye movement to a large extent
