17 yo. with high eye pressure

by lasiewsk, May 21, 2008 10:02AM
My 17 yo daughter has above normal eye pressure readings.  20 in one eye and 24 in the other.  Her optic nerve is very healthy.  They keep testing her for glaucoma (4 different times).  Tests indicate some deficiencies but visually (to the doctor) no damage to the optic nerve.

What ARE other causes of high pressures?  We've been to 2 different doctors 4 times.  We have an appointment with a glaucoma specialist in a couple of months, but I'm looking for some answers.

Any help?

By definition high pressure that damages the eye is glaucoma. There are many types of glaucoma (20 or more). Some can occur at birth and some (such as pigmentary glaucoma) can occur in young people.

The pressure comes from fluid in the eye either forming too fast or draining too slow.

Keep your appointment with the glaucoma specialist.
