2 months - burning eyes, no relief

About two months ago my left eye started burning and becomingly increasingly red. I thought it was an eye infection so I went to my optometrist. She said it was allergies and gave me Pataday and Lotemax (for the inflammation). These didn't  help the burning at all. She then diagnosed me with blepharitis. I did eyelid scrubs and warm compresses twice a day. Still no change. I was then told I have severely dry eyes and had temporary punctal plugs put in, again no change.

It has been two months, both of my eyes consistently burn and are red. The left eye is worse and has a heavy sensation in addition the the burning. The only time my eyes do not hurt is while I am sleeping and IMMEDIATELY after waking up. I can barely make it through the day and am not sure what steps to take next.

Sounds like dry eyes with possible meibomian gland dysfunction.  You need to go see an ophthalmologist as there are multiple causes of dry eye and multiple potential treatments you can try.
