7 month old with astigmatism question again.

7 month old with astigmatism question again.

Hello,
I wrote just yesterday about my daughters astigmatism and now have all the info after speaking with the office again. As for the three numbers, it is plano+1.50x180 in both eyes.
Exactly what does the plano mean? ALso there is no note of lazy eye or a turning eye, just an astigmatism. So my questions are at 7 months are glasses truely necessary for this? I have read from a few sources online that glasses before 2 years of age are not always a great idea so I am just concerned with putting glasses on her so young when shouldn't her eye have more developing to do?. I had taken her for the visit for a red eye reflex check. I never saw any signs she had poor vision, in fact I t hought she had great vision s ince she is constantly picking up tiny flecks she finds in our rug,  so this never would have even been picked up at this age had I not taken her for something totally different. so I am not sure if I really believe she should be in glasses. ANy input would be great. Thank you.

Plano means there is no farsightedness or nearsightedness only astigmatism.  1.5 diopters is not a lot of astigmatism. It would be more of a concern if there was astigmatism in one eye and not the other. That would lend itself to the eye with astigmatism not being used as much and amblyopia.

I would suggest you get a second opinion from a Pediatric Ophthalmologist. I think there is a good chance a second opinion will not recommend glasses.  Let us know if you would in a follow up post.
