A question on exophoria and exotropia.

A question on exophoria and exotropia.

My daughter had an eye exam with an OD and below is the diagnosis.

1. exophoria at far  ~ 12 (followed by a small triangle)
2. intermittent alternating exotropia R>L at near  ~ 30 ( followed by a small triangle)
3. hyperopic asha L>R

I think 12 and 30 are the degree/measurement of exophoria and exotropia. Could you please let me know what do 12 and 30 ( followed by a small triangle) mean? Is my daughter's exophoria and exotropia serious or not serious?

The small triange means "diopters" and its a measurement of how off alignment the eyes are. The exophoria is not a big deal now but the exotropia is. In my opinion your duaghter needs to see a pediatric ophthalmologist. Find one near you at www.aao.org or ask your pediatrician to recommend one.
