I am 23 years old and just had an eye exam two weeks ago by my eye doctor. She dialated my eyes and found a small retinal hole, she called it an "old a systematic retinal hole" that probably has been there for some time now. I am now scheduled to see a retinal specialists and they will either do surgery if necessary or leave my eye alone.
I am really scared because I do not know what this means. My doctor said that I am going to be fine, but since I am very nearsighted (-8 in my left, -7.25 in my right), she wants to get an ok by the specialist. I am worried about a retinal detachment and or lose of vision.
What are the chances that this small hole will cause a detachment in the future and is there anything I can possible do to prevent future holes or retinal problems? Do you think that I will need surgery for the hole?
