Has anyone else been diagnosed with or heard of this? I heard it's very uncommon and occurs mostly in young, healthy females. I am a 33 year old female in good health. After several dr's, I have been diagnosed what they think is acute idiopathic maculopathy. It started unilateral in my left eye and is now bilateral affecting my right eye. For the past 3 months, I see flickering spots of light in both eyes when my eyes adjust to a change in light (i.e. going from a dark room to outside natural light). This flickering stops after a couple seconds. I also see waving lines in my left eye, gray-like blind spots in both and flashing specks of light in both. My eye vision has continued to test at 20/20 for both eyes. They do not know what has caused this, but pictures of my retinas/angiogram are showing that it is improving very slowly. They say that I possibly have a little swelling of both optic nerves- but that it is so slight that they would not even classfiy it as actual swelling. To complicate matters, shortly after we discovered a problem with my eyes, I started having symptoms that my dr has attributed to anixiety (headaches, ringing in ears, nasuea, tension in my neck and shoulders, unbalanced/lighheaded feeling. After a complete blood panel and MRI we have ruled out alot, including lupus, rheumatiod arthitis and viral causes such as cat scratch fever. They say anixiety is to blame for these.
I have done alot of research on the wed about my eye problems and the other physical symptoms I have been having... has anyone else on this site been diagnosed with this eye disorder or experienced similar problems. Also a question to the doctor: I have read a little about pseudotumor cerebri, could this be what's causing my retinal issues and explain some of my other symptoms? Thank you for responses.
