Additional vision help with a contact lens?

Additional vision help with a contact lens?

I had retinal tear surgery on January 30, 2009.  The vision recovery/improvement has pretyy much ceased after 7 months...far from normal accuity.  Are there contact lenses made that could be contoured to take the "bumpiness" out of my vision.  Its like looking through a glass block.
Thanks.

If the visual problem is due to retinal problems, then a contact will not help any more than glasses.  So, the answer is that a contact really won't help if glasses won't help (unless there is some type of significant irregular astigmatism or other corneal disorder.)

Some visual problems due to retinal problems can be helped.  There's information about how this is done using special glasses and sometimes contact lenses, too, at www opticaldiagnostics com.  In his paper "Retinally induced aniseikonia," Dr. de Wit describes how he helped people see better who had different retinal conditions, including retinal detachment.  You can download the paper from the website, although it's quite technical.  I suggest that you email Dr. de Wit, describing how your repaired retinal tear distorts your vision.  Hopefully, he can advise you about whether he might be able to help you.

I had distortion and an image-size difference between my eyes following retinal surgery to peel an epiretinal membrane.  Dr. de Wit's optical solution for me (glasses worn over a contact lens) eliminated my double vision and made my vision much more comfortable.  I hope that he can help you, too.
