Anisocoria? Unsolved

by bffmom, Nov 16, 2008 03:17PM
Hello....
I am a 39 year old female . For the past several years my left pupil has been differant than my right one.....its noticable in the dark or light because my pupil changes as it wants with or without light changes and some times they can both be the same size for a hour or two.  I went to my eye doctor and he sent me to an ophthalmologist that checked my eyes and ran several test. After an MRI, MRI with contrast, spinal tap, ect. there is no Dib, M.S., or tumor that they can see. He really didnt see anything and couldnt give me any answers which was frustrating...he put my diagnoses as anisocoria......?
I was sent on to Miami Balsom Palmer eye clinic witch is was the best of the best I was told....... They were also stumpted and said they may call me in for a case study. That was not the answer I was looking for... They put the diagnoses down as Adious pupil. ( One Doctor said that is the term for they don't know)

My left eyelid twitches as would be present in Horner's syndrome, but I should mention that the left eye does not react to light or drops.....for hours a day the left eye pulsates in and out of focus.... and the right eye is very normal....i'm really worried...i also get headaches a lot.... and when I close my eyes at night I have pain for five to ten minutes.... I wake up and my left pupil is usualy enlarged, but by late afternoon time the pupil will shrink down to a pin drop and it is very painful.

What is it?......What should be my next step?......Have you ever seen this problem before?.............

There is such an entity as idiopathic ansiocoria, "idiopathic" means "we don't know what causes it". You apparently have it. Give your work up unless something new develops I would stop worrrying about it.
