Are Acrlic AMO Sensar Lenses The Best Option to Replace A Lense In High Myope?

I am a high myope.  My axial measurement is in excess of 30mm.  My contact perscription deteriated to -17 to -19.  a cataract developed.  I was told an acrylic lense was the only option because of the possible future need to treat the retina with sylicone oil. Unfortunately, I need a +3 and the technis monofocal apparently does not come in that power. (Is this true?)  Second, will the vision be inferior with a spherical lense like the sensar as opposed to an aspherical lense?

Given a cataract that has begun to effect my vision, is there a better option than the AMO Sensar?

My other eye is -11 in contacts with an axially measurement of about 27.5.  Will the Technis be an option for that eye?  Is it reasonable to have the left eye fixed but put off the right eye until it effects me as much as the left eye?

Thanks. If I am following you correctly, it would be best to get another spherical (as opposed to an aspherical) lense in the right eye when the cataract progresses to the point it is interfering with my life, correct?

Using a silicone or arylic IOL in a patient with a potential for an RD is a matter of opinion.  Eye rarely see well if they need silicone oil.  I am a retina vitreous fellowship trained surgeon and I have put in silicone IOL in high retinal detachment risk eyes.  Also, I have had a retinal detachment with multiple surgeries to fix the detachment and the subsequent ERM.  I chose the Crystalens AO, a silicone IOL.

I believe the Tecnis only goes to +6.00.  However, there are other AMO acrylic IOLs that go to even negative powers.  I would recommend the same type of IOL in both eyes.  You need to do a calculation to see if a Tecnis will work in your other eye.
