Astigmatism

by Oscar1973, Feb 23, 2008 05:51AM
Hi,

I was diagnosed with an astigmatism around 9 years ago.  Will this progressively get worse (may have gotten slightly worse over this time)?  Also, is an astigmatism diagnosed by what an Eye MD can actually see (ie. irregular shaped cornea) or by what the patient describes?

Just wondering.....

1. Astigmatism means the cornea is lopsided (aspherical), sometimes it gets worse and at other times not. Its not a disease. The amount of the astigmatism can be determined by keratometers, autorefractors,  but ususally retinoscopy and refraction.
