Black spot in vision

Continuing my earlier thread, that is now closed.  I am seeing the eye specialist tomorrow (the optomerist took a month to book it and only then when I followed up).

This discussion is related to Black spot in vision.

Same thing is happening to me: dark spot in center of vision after waking up that quickly fades. Had an eye exam a couple of weeks ago but was told everything was normal.

Have any of you guys had any further developments? There seems to be quite a few people complaining about the same thing but no one seems to have any answers. Luckily I haven't seen anyone posting about any serious or worrying progression to this condition either.

BTW I am a 36 yo male. Myopic (-3.25), but otherwise healthy.

I have this same thing happen first thing in the morning then it's gone after I blink a couple times -- a black spot in front of me with glowing edges. It has been happening consistently for the past few weeks and is starting to feel the norm.  Just from other online research it might just be Hypnagogia, a hallucination that occurs between sleep and being awake.  Or maybe it's the pupil of our third eye emerging.  Hey if there is no physical reason maybe it's metaphysical..

I am experiencing the same problem as you.  It happens to me everymorning and it goes away after a few blinks. It has been happening to me for about a month.  I do not have glasses or contacts.  I seem to have good vision besides this in my opinion.   I have not gone to a Dr. for this problem.  Have you found out any new information on this?

Thanks

Wow - 2 and a half years and I still have this problem.  My day to day vision doesn't seem to be affected by it so I'm hoping it is just something that will puzzle me for the rest of my (many I hope) days and never become any more serious.  I'll keep seeing the specialist once a year or so though as sight is so important.

Just had a quick look at what pressure phosphenes are.  Being caused by pressure in the eye, is it possible that I would see that same spot with both eyes at the same time?  What are the odds of the pressure issue giving the exact same result with either eye?  And at the same time?

Hi dukey
I haven't checked this thread for months.  Thanks for the suggestion.  I'll look into that just out of curiosity.
FYI - The internet's a big place - remember that first W (in www) stands for 'World'.  I'm in New Zealand not America.

Are you sure this isn't a pressure phosphene? Most docs will not have a clue about this. I have read many threads on here about people seeing things when they blink. Phopshenes are diffierent things to different people by all accounts. An MRI sounds excessive but then this is America!

MRI was all clear, which I'm very happy about.  The specialist wants to repeat the field of vision test in a few months.  The spot continues to be visible EVERY morning.  I might start a new thread just to see if it picks up any other suggestions.

Had the MRI today.  They saw nothing to explain my symptoms, so injected some dye to get a better look and did a few more minutes of scanning.  It's looking like the scan won't show anything, but will have to wait for the doctor to examine the scans and report to the specialist.

Sounds something like migraine to me, but I do not know that much in this area. Your questions will be more visible to the doctor if you start a new thread/question, either here or on the ask an expert forum. Sometimes if a question has gone around 5 or 6 times, he gets the new questions first.

I see jagged white lights sometimes, with both eyes. I told my retinologist about them and he was not familiar with this. I read about it, and I was satisfied that they were migraine related.. But you see them more often, I think. I have has a lot of eye surgeries, also.

I thought the threads are closed if there are no new entries for some time.  I was unable to add to my earlier thread on this, and I thought that was why.

I went to the eye specialist again yesterday.  He tried some different lenses in front of my eyes and said he could correct my left eye stigmatism, but not my right.  He then did a retinal scan(?) of my right eye and said that was all fine.  He has no idea what is causing my vision problem and I was dismayed when he started talking about floaters again.  I had to remind him the spot I see is with BOTH eyes, so it can't be a floater.  Doesn't exactly fill me with confidence in his diagnostic abilities.

I now have a referral for an MRI.  The doc says he would be very surprised if it shows anything, but I don't know how he can say that when he has no idea what is going on.  So I'll get onto booking that on Monday.

I'm seeing a spot in front of my eyes, very central.  Looks the same with both eyes. I can only see it in low light, like first thing in the morning.  And it's only visible in the instant that I blink.  So any ideas on why this might be, I'd be very interested. It is dark grey, rather than black, slightly fuzzy-edged.  If I blink rapidly, it looks white.

Thanks John
The specialist wants to see me again, but as a general follow-up, not because of the test results - nothing to worry about there apparently.  So back I go, 11 July.  Unless the spot I've seen in my vision every morning for about 4-5 months has suddenly disappeared, I'll get that MRI referral.  The whole thing is starting to stress me out now.

The nurse who performed the test said my field of vision test was1 OK.  Just waiting for the specialist to confirm that.  Then I guess I have to seriously consider the MRI.
